With some coronavirus restrictions lifting yesterday as part of the Government’s roadmap for Britain’s next steps in combating Covid-19, many readers will be planning their trip to sip an ice-cool beer in one of our region’s best beer gardens.

This week, we asked you for your “best beer garden” and, as always, you answered the call.

Here, in no particular order are some of the recommendations for the best beer garden across north and west Cumbria.

1 THE GREY GOAT INN, BAGGROW

Reader Ainsley Marie Wood posted: “The Grey Goat, Baggrow, huge beer garden.

“Can socially distance, 22 households, two metres apart.”

It has a number of excellent reviews from Tripadvisor.

One said: “We ate at the Inn on the site, had an excellent meal, probably the best meal I have had in a long time.

“Can recommend The Grey Goat Inn, Baggrow, for a drink.”

2 MINERS ARMS, GUARD STREET, WORKINGTON

The pub is highly recommended by readers Terry Gibson and Raymond Mitchell.

A Facebook reviewer said: “Brilliant staff, owners, made to feel like family.

“Will definitely go back especially on a Friday late afternoon. Lovely people.”

3 CASTLE BAR, MARKET PLACE, COCKERMOUTH

Located on Market Place, the pub has a terraced beer garden.

Judith Scott said: “It is set out over three levels.

“Great friendly staff, great range of drinks, great food.

“Try it for yourself if you get the chance.”

4 SWINSIDE INN, NEWLANDS VALLEY, KESWICK

The inn is a favourite of Becky Roberts'.

She said: The inn at Keswick, or the Coldale Inn, also at Keswick.

“Both have fabulous views.”

The pub has a number of rave reviews on Tripadvisor.

One customer said: “Planned a walk from Borrowdale with the Swinside Inn being at the halfway point.

“Friendly staff excellent local real ales, tried two and they were perfectly kept, great butties.

“All that we had hoped for. Would be a great base for walking, too. Perfect.”

David Bedlington said: “Wigton Park Bowling Club, with a good game to watch and pleasant company.”

5 LIFEBOAT INN, SIBSON PLACE, HARRINGTON

The pub comes recommended by reader Lee Edmundson.

One Google reviewer said: “Epic pub. Well maintained.

“Great staff. And a beer garden to die for.

“The function room/band room is perfect for most family events.”

6 THE BLUE BELL INN, KING STREET, WORKINGTON

The pub gets the thumbs up from reader Kelly Plaskett.

It has glowing reviews on Facebook.

One said: “Proper boozer with well kept beer.”
