A grade-II listed six-bedroom home in Carlisle that was set to go under the hammer with a guide price of just £150,000 has sold for more than £220,000.

Ashleigh House, on Wood Street, was being auctioned off by Auction House Cumbria on April 1 via an online auction.

The "substantial" family house comprises of three reception rooms, four bedrooms, two bathrooms and a large attic, featuring skylights and carpeted floors.

What was once an adjoining cottage, now converted into a garage with two rooms above, also comes with the property.

To the front, there is a small garden with wrought iron railings, a driveway leading to the garage which features a remotely controlled roller door.

As well as all of that, the house comes with a 110 ft rear garden, as well as a sheltered, sandstone flagged courtyard.

The walled garden includes a number of mature trees.

The area is described as a popular street of individual properties, and is situated just off Warwick Road with easy access to the City Centre as well as the M6 motorway.

It is just 1.3 miles away from the train station, while the nearest school - St Cuthbert's Catholic Community School - is just 0.2 miles away.

One issue is that windows to the rear elevation have been replaced without listed building consent.

The purchaser will inherit liability to rectify this breach of planning control. Prospective buyers are able to see a letter from Carlisle City Council in the legal pack, which details the options open to the new owner.

Furthermore, some of the interior decor could be described as somewhat dated!

The property eventually sold for £223,000 during the auction.
