In another exciting move for the club, Whitehaven Rugby League has signed a Huddersfield Giants player on loan.

The latest new player to enter the LEL Arena for Whitehaven RLFC is Huddersfield’s Ronan Michael, he joins the side on loan for a two-week rolling deal.

Michael was the first Irish born player to enter into the Super League in over a decade when he made his debut last year, having only started playing in 2017.

He will look to secure a place in the Ireland squad for this year’s Rugby League World Cup after learning the game back at the Irish U17’s trials back in 2017.

But speaking of his signing to Betfred Championship squad Haven, Michael said: "I’m really looking forward to my loan spell at Whitehaven and I’m grateful for the opportunity.

"The championship this year is a very competitive one! I’m hoping to gain some game playing experience during the loan. Hopefully I can get out there soon with the boys and show what I’m about and learn along the way!"

Whitehaven RLFC Director Ashely Kilpatrick said: "We are delighted to have Ronan join us.

"I’d like to thank Richard Thewlis, Ian Watson and the Huddersfield Giants for allowing Ronan to come to us, I’d also like to thank Ronan’s agent Graeme Taylor who made the deal between both parties happen swiftly and professionally.”

Haven play at home this Sunday as they welcome Bradford Bulls to the newly renamed LEL Arena.
