BOTH Labour and the Conservatives have new councillors as the results of two by-elections held for vacant seats on Barrow Borough Council have been announced.
Residents of two wards in Barrow - Hindpool and Roosecote - went to the polls on Thursday May 6 to decide who they wished to represent them on the council.
For the Hindpool ward, the results were as follows:
Niyall Phillips. Conservative Party - 359
Jo Tyson. Labour Party - 600
Spoiled ballot papers - 5
Turnout - 22.88 per cent
For the Roosecote ward, the results were as follows:
Paul Griffiths. Labour Party - 564
Jay Zaccarini. Conservative Party - 881
Spoiled ballot papers - 10 Turnout 37.22 per cent
The count was carried out at Barrow Town Hall.
On Monday, the count will get under way for the Cumbria Police and Crime Commissioner election.
