Firefighters have confirmed that there was an explosion in Workington on Friday.
Emergency services were called to an explosion in the town centre near Ladies Walk.
GNAAS were called at about 5pm to reports of a patient having sustained burns and arrived at 5.15pm.
The explosion was believed to have be close to where the former Opera House is being demolished.
The patient was treated and assessed at the scene and airlifted to Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle.
A spokesman for Cumbria Fire and Rescue said: "Three fire engines attended an incident on Ladies Walk, Workington.
"The incident involved an acetylene explosion. Firefighters administered first aid to one casualty and were in attendance for about two hours."
