A CALLOUT saw Cumbrian mountain rescue personnel assist a walker near Mickledore.

Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team were alerted by Cumbria Police to a call from a Personal Locator Beacon which appeared to be sent out from Mickledore, Scafell Pike.

There was little more information than the location and teams are unable to speak to the informant via the beacon.

A text followed suggesting that the casualty may not be injured but is severely hypothermic.

Wasdale volunteers made their way to the location, it was a full team callout.

The casualty was found on Mickledore being looked after by fellow walkers who were passing by.

Conditions were wet, windy, misty and cold but after food and rewarming, the casualty was able to walk down the incline by their own power with some assistance.

A spokesperson for Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team said: “Our thanks to the RAF mountain rescue team who were on their way to help, but were stood down as the casualty was able to walk.”

The incident took five hours and 36 minutes and involved 17 team members.
