A MAN has been airlifted to hospital after suffering serious injures at a sawmill near Ellesmere.

The incident was reported shortly after 11am at ETC Sawmills in Caegoody Lane in Elson.

Three fire crews, including the rescue tender, were mobilised from Ellesmere and Wellington.

An operations officer was also in attendance.

Also at the scene of the incident were the air ambulance and the land ambulance service.

Firefighters released one man from machinery, who was taken into the care of the ambulance service.

The fire crews left the scene around 45 minutes later.

Meanwhile a spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service confirmed a man had been flown to hospital with serious injuries.

They said: "We were called at 10:50am to Cargotec Industrial Park in Ellesmere.

"We sent one ambulance, a paramedic officer and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Cosford to the scene.

"Crews arrived to find one patient, a man.

"He was treated at the scene for serious injuries, and he was flown to the Major Trauma Centre at Royal Stoke University Hospital for further treatment."
