A POPULAR agricultural show which attracts thousands of people every year has been cancelled - for the second year running.

The 170th Cockermouth Show was originally due to take place on August 1 last year.

It had to be cancelled due to the Covid situation but was rescheduled for this July.

The committee has made the decision not to proceed with this year’s show.

It announced: “It is with regret that we have to announce the cancellation of 2021’s show due to the continuing issues around Covid-19.

“We have considered all the issues and believe that it is in best interest of the committee and the community that we do not hold the event again this year.

"However we look forward to meeting you all next year on 30 July, 2022 and thank you all for your continued support. Without this our show would not exist.”

The show has been running since 1849 and has a committee of more than 100 people working behind the scenes to create a great day out on the showfield at The Fitz, on Low Road.
