LOTS of people were sad to hear that Broughton Children’s Carnival will not be going ahead this year as a result of the pandemic.

The annual event is hugely popular and always supported by hundreds of people.

Everyone is grateful for the hardworking committee which always ensures a grand day – and often night – out for all ages.

So we’re sharing some fabulous photos which will hopefully bring back lots of happy memories.

The last carnival, in 2019, had everything from inflatable dinosaurs to the Village People and dancing chickens.

People turned out in their hundreds for the village’s 72nd carnival. A good mix of floats and entertainment on foot was made even better by the fact that the sun broke through at just the right time and stayed beautiful all day.

Carnival committee John Dobie led the procession from the judging field down through Great Broughton and Little Broughton.

Mossley Band, from Greater Manchester, joined the fun.

The floats were excellent, reflecting months of hard work and effort.

Broughton Legion showed off their moves with their Browton Village People routine, but it was the Sun Dial that won en route entertainment with their Sun Dial chicken pluckers, who danced to several songs including the time warp, much to the crowd's delight.

Broughton Primary School entered on foot dressed as Mamma Mia, taking the theme from their summer school play.

There were also Broughton pupils on the Matilda the Musical float.

Judges presented each queen with an award, rosette and certificate. Then MP Sue Hayman presented Carnival queen Lexie Mather, with hers.
