A plan for a large extension at a West Cumbria care home has been approved.

Good Companions Care Home based at Silloth submitted the application to Allerdale Council on December, 18, 2019.

The plan for the extension, proposed on the application, is to demolish the rear wing and construct a new three-storey extension, housing bedrooms, kitchen, a lift and stairs.

In a s statement submitted to Allerdale Borough Council, the applicant stated: “Planning permission for the proposed extension to the home is being applied for to secure the position of the Good Companions in providing the highest quality of care.

“It is needed for us to be able to continue to serve the local community and to ensure the continuing full employment of our 36 care staff. “

The plan for the new development will allow the care home to employ a further 10 to 12 staff brining the total to nearly 50.

Allerdale Borough Council confirmed that the decision had been taken to grant planning

permission for the application subject to compliance conditions.
