The community is being invited to help stop the spread of an invasive plant.

Himalayan Balsam is an invasive, non-native plant that prevents native species from growing, chokes waterways, and causes riverbank erosion.

West Cumbria Rivers Trust will be pulling it up in Cockermouth and people are invited to join them.

No experience is necessary as they will be shown what to do.

Everyone is welcome – as long as they are happy bending down and pulling up plants.

Those joining in should bring wellies or boots, gardening gloves, clothing suitable for the weather, and some food and drink. Long trousers and sleeves are preferable.

Tools will be provided. Limited parking is available but there are no facilities on site.

There will be two start times at 3pm and 5pm so as many people can get involved after work as possible.

It would be useful for everyone to make one of these start times to see the demo, but people are still welcome to join in after work.

The meeting points are at 3pm at Double Mills Bridge, Cockermouth, and then at 5pm meeting at Quaker Bridge in the town.
