Cumbrian branches of a well-known UK-based music and film retailer are celebrating the company's 100th birthday his week.

HMV turned 100 on Monday July 20 and to celebrate, the Carlisle and Workington stores will be stocking centenary edition vinyls, featuring records from bands like Kate Bush, The Prodigy and The XX.

Store Manager of HMV in Carlisle and Workington, Russ Withey, said: "In addition to this, we’re also stocking fantastic hmv 100th anniversary and retro branded merchandise.

"We’re looking forward to welcoming musicians - both big stars and amazing local artists - back for store appearances in the coming months, and welcoming their fans back in store to meet them."

HMV was set up by Sir Edward Elgar and started life on Oxford Street in London.

There are now over 100 stores across the country.

In Cumbria, there are only two HMV stores - one at The Lanes Shopping Centre in Carlisle, and one on Washington Square in Workington.
