THE Mayor of Workington has announced his first event aimed at raising funds for his two chosen charities- Hospice at Home and Samaritans West Cumbria.

The event will be an evening of fun with a boat ride on the launch at Derwentwater.

Anyone who attends will be provided with travel to the lake, followed by a cruise around Derwentwater, with sausage and chips provided for supper.

The food will then be followed by a second tour- in which the history of the lake and area will be provided to all who attend.

Mayor Herbert Briggs, said : "It's absolutely brilliant that we are starting to get back to some normality whatever normality is going to be.

"We have had a tough 16 to 18 months, not just one person or two it's the whole country, not just up here - so it's brilliant that we are starting to get back to normality

"It's just absolutely fantastic that we are getting back to some form of normality.

"We should raise quite a bit of money,only a handful of tickets are left...I'm hoping to raise a four figure sum to kickstart the fundraising for my chosen charities

The Mayor wished to extend his deepest thanks to the teams at M&I Travel and The Keswick Launch Company, who have given the use of their facilities for free to help in the fundraising.

The event will take place on Saturday, August 14 with anyone who has a ticket being picked up fro Workington and taken through to the event.

Tickets are priced at £20 per person , however only a limited amount are still left due to numbers being restricted down to transport restrictions.
