A Cumbrian MP has praised the investment in jobs at a soon-to-open premium country inn and hotel.

Penrith and The Border MP Neil Hudson saw for himself developments at The Fleece at Ruleholme, near Brampton, which is set to welcome its first customers next month.

A two-year build has seen the 23-bedroom hotel, restaurant, pub and wedding/conference venue rise from the ground beside the A689.

Finishing touches are now being carried out to the interior before staff training starts on site.

Directors David Corkill and Robert Cowan told the MP the venue would employ around 50 full-time, and up to 30 part-time, staff when fully operational.

Dr Hudson praised the multi-million pound investment in the development during a period of uncertainty for the hospitality industry caused by the pandemic.

He said: “It’s testament to David and Robert’s confidence in the hospitality market and the strength of what they’re offering that they have made this commitment at such a time.

“I’m sure it’s going to be a first-class addition to the hospitality offer in the region and I was delighted to hear about the number of jobs that are being created.”

While most of the kitchen team is in place, Mr Corkill said they were always keen to add to their roster and could offer the right candidates both management and kitchen roles.

The period of staff training was important, he said, to ensure The Fleece could meet the high standards of service expected.

Mr Corkill added: “We believe we are creating something unique for this part of North Cumbria.

"The Fleece will appeal to a wide range of people from locals, to tourists trekking Hadrian’s Wall to the weddings and conference market.

“We’re so excited to get inside and make it happen.”

The Fleece will apparently boast a traditional country inn, meals served in the glass-fronted Oak room, fine dining in Bridge restaurant and 200 covers in Hadrian’s Suite wedding and function room.

In its bedrooms and suites, there are custom pieces of art, Illy brand coffee machines, 4K TVs, direct-dial phones, luxury toiletries and relaxed seating areas.

Select rooms also feature deep copper or slipper bathtubs, Juliet balconies, rustic oak beams and Lanercost stone detailing.
