A WEST Cumbrian engineering firm is looking to expand its horizons after it doubled its number of staff in the past six months.

LEL, based in Lillyhall, has been increasing its staffing numbers whilst picking up new contracts across the country.

The company was founded back in 2016 and has expanded to areas like mechanical and electrical installation.

Managing Director Nick Robinson, said: "We have the equipment and expertise to undertake all types of mechanical installations with a full team of highly skilled personnel supported by our technical department.

"We install and commission specialist mechanical equipment including cranes, shield doors and associated motors, pumps and pipework to the nuclear industry and others.

"We’ve completed a number of separate projects on time and budget at Sellafield Ltd in the last 12 months."

Much of their work has been with Sellafield Ltd, with recent projects including the installation of 300-tonne shield door equipment as a subcontractor for engineering company Wellman Booth Ltd.

This year the firm also received Build UK’s Leading Mechanical and Industrial Engineering Firm Northwest England award for 2021.

As they have grown as a company they have begun to expand their work in the local community.

They are the principal sponsor of Whitehaven RLFC which has recently changed the name of their ground to the LEL arena.

As part of their work with the rugby club they have renovated the Jimmy Clements grandstand.

They are also working with Calderwood House which is a homeless shelter in Egremont.

A lot of their work with Calderwood House is driven by the work that the centre does with veterans who have fallen on hard times.

Mr Robinson added: "It’s important to us that as we grow, we can create jobs in the local community, but also add long-term social value in other ways as well, whether it’s via the Armed Forces Covenant or work with local charities and community organisations."
