A COMMUNITY is getting behind their club this week, with Workington Town set to play in the League One Final this weekend.

The club have had a fantastic season of rugby, but all will be determined this Sunday when the side meet Doncaster at Derwent Park - with only one thing on both sides' minds - promotion.

This week, we asked members of the community to send their messages of support to the squad before the match, in which boss Chris Thorman has said the boys will 'give a performance'.

Workington MP Mark Jenkinson said: "I want to wish our boys the very best of luck, every single one of us needs to get behind them. Smash it."

Workington Town Council also sent their best wishes ahead of the big final - they said that they wished the squad the best of luck on Sunday and were really proud of all they had done this year.

Whitehaven-born St Helen's Legend Kyle Amour also took to Twitter at the weekend to wish the lads the best of luck after watching Doncaster qualify in the semi-finals to play them.

He said: "What a crazy finish to the game between Keighley Cougars and Doncaster. Congratulations to Doncaster on reaching the play-off final but there’s only one team that I’ll be rooting for in that game. #UpTheTown."

And the most important group - the fans - have ventured out in their hundreds to what has been an unprecedented season of rugby league in the town.

Long time Town fan Luke Reilly said: "Come on boys you can do it. Supported this club for 20+ years and I still love Workington Town more than ever. Up the Town."

Paul Minshaw said: "Come on lads one more push. First major playoff final since 1994 … Give it your all. Derwent Park will be bouncing. Up the Town."

Lifelong fan Dave Hill was keen to give the lads his support. He said: "Good luck lads, been a Townie for 50-odd years. Give it your all boys. The town is behind you, enjoy the day. Up the Town."

The match will take place on October 10 with kick off at 1pm.

Tickets can be bought before the match online or on the day.
