A young woman is going to feature in a documentary about an environmental conference.

Hannah Wright, 17, of Kendal, is going to feature in a Sky Kids documentary about COP26.

The 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference, also known as COP26, is the 26th United Nations Climate Change conference.

It is scheduled to be held in the city of Glasgow, Scotland, between October 31 and November 12, 2021.

The Sky Original is a new documentary featuring six young climate activists from six different continents who deliver a powerful message about how climate change is already having an impact on their lives and deliver an emotive call to action.

Europe’s contributor is the fantastic Cumbria native, Hannah, a 17-year-old student, who became involved in climate activism when she heard about the plans to build a new coal mine on the Cumbrian coast.

Hannah is a member of a Youth Climate Action group in the Lake District and has recently joined a steering committee for the Cumbrian Youth Climate Conference.

She is a passionate young activist, who cares deeply about the Lake District.

She said of the coal mine in Whitehaven: "I just feel like it's going backwards on climate action, we're supposed to be tackling climate change, so I am quite confused with the news of the coal mine.

"We keep hearing world leaders promising us that they will be taking climate action seriously, and this seems like they are going back on their promises, and we are being lied to.

"We need to reinvest in greener technologies instead of those that are unsustainable.

"One of the arguments for coal mines is that they will provide lots of jobs, I understand there is a really big need to solve these social issues, but climate issues need to go hand in hand, and we need to come up with greener technology that will provide jobs."

Hannah said the documentary will raise awareness of climate action issues to the government.

She added: "I also want to raise awareness of what smaller groups in Cumbria are doing for climate action, they are causing so much change but all we ever hear about is governments failing to enact change."

The one-off documentary, COP26: In Your Hands, launches on Sky Kids, Sky News, and streaming service NOW on 18 October ahead of the UN Climate Change Conference.

The 30-minute Sky Original documentary, commissioned by Sky Kids, COP26: In Your Hands is introduced by HRH Prince Charles who outlines his concerns for the planet.

The programme also features UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson, as the host of COP26.
