A West Cumbrian charity have shown their appreciation after receiving new mud kitchens from the local focus hub.

In July, Family Action’s North Allerdale Children’s Centre in Wigton suffered an arson attack, which damaged the centre’s outdoor equipment and destroyed the mud kitchens. This was a great loss to the Centre, as the mud kitchens were a brilliant resource that the children loved to use for their imaginative play.

After hearing the news, Paul Shearsby, Allerdale Local Hub Co-ordinator, kindly offered to replace the kitchens for the charity. Paul has donated his own time and use of resources to make new mud kitchens for the children of Wigton and Family Action have showed their gratitude towards Kevin for his generosity.

Paul said: “Being the parent of a disabled child, equipment and charities like this are close to my heart. When I heard what had happened, I felt the desire to replace these along with the help of my wife, children and parents. I hope that they bring many memories, imagination and respite to those who need it”.

The Hub brings together a number of agencies such as Cumbria Police, Allerdale Borough Council, housing associations and more to make living in communities easier.

Family Action have also received donations of equipment to accompany the mud kitchens from local firms Wright Asset Solutions and Lakeland Fleet Management. Family Action are extremely grateful for the kind donations of people’s time and money and have been overwhelmed by the fantastic community spirit of Allerdale.
