A WOMAN is launching a new fitness class for mums and their young children.

Sarah Nixon, from Seaton, is launching Sweaty Mamas in West Cumbria on November 1.

These are classes for mothers to bring their little ones to to enjoy a fun effective workout while bonding with their child a d meeting other mothers in their community.

She said: "Exercise is not only proven to help our physical health but also be a huge help to our mental well-being."

Explaining the background of the classes, Sarah said: "I was a personal trainer before I had my most recent little boy who is now seven months, so i know the struggle of being able to access exercise when you have children.

"In big cities, there are crèches in gyms where you can put your child, but there is nothing locally where mums can take their children along with them.

"I reached out to Sweaty Mamas to get it in Cumbria, and I bought the license for West Cumbria, from this side of Egremont, up to Keswick and just before Wigton.

"I'm a pre and post-natal fitness specialist so the workouts are tailored for people who have given birth, they're trained to get your fitness back after you've had a baby, but they're also open to anyone who's had a baby, aged from six weeks to three to four years old, and they can bring more than one child with them.

"The kids like the music so they can take part, and the babies are used as the weight and are used in the workout that way.

"It's not just a case of 'bring your child along and keep them entertained', they're a part of the workout, so they enjoy it as much as mum enjoys it.

"It is daunting for mums when everything has changed after a baby to go back into a big gym, so the point of it is is everyone is in the same boat."

Classes are being held weekly in Whitehaven, Harrington, Seaton, Dearham and Broughton.
