A mayor and mayoress have attended a local amateur theatre production.

The Mayor and Mayoress of Workington were delighted to watch the first performance of My Fair Lady, a George Bernard Shaw musical, at the Carnegie Theatre and Arts Centre last night.

The historic Carnegie Theatre and Arts Centre is one of Workington’s much loved buildings and West Cumbria’s premier theatre, entertainment and arts centre.

They programme a diverse range of performances, shows and events across the year featuring family shows, comedy, music, opera, ballet, lectures and spoken word events, rock and pop concerts and musicals from the professional touring circuit and from community based performers.

The Mayor, Cllr Herbert Briggs, said "It was great to see Workington Amateur Operatic Society (WAOS) getting back to what they do best, I hope they enjoyed it as much as myself and Tracy did.

"Well done to the whole cast for a great performance."
