An amateur football club in Allerdale is looking for support from the public to buy a defibrillator.

Maryport Athletic FC has set up a Just Giving to help fund the important piece of equipment at their ground.

The club will be taking part in some activities to help with the efforts.

A spokesperson from Maryport Athletic AFC said: "We must reiterate the importance of having a defibrillator close by. Please help us raise funds to enable us to have one near us on the Milltoft/Lidl site."

The club has brought the issue to higher significance following an incident over the weekend at the Newcastle United and Tottenham game.

A fan at the game suffered a cardiac arrest and the match had to be postponed for some time, thankfully the man survived.

Because of this football clubs across the country, including Maryport Athletic, will be doing their best to be equipped should a similar incident take place.

So far, the club have organised a litter pick around the town to help with their efforts.

They have managed to raise over £1000 for the defibrillator so far.
