Residents of Allerdale who are intrigued about local history have the opportunity to learn about a story of local legend this week.

On Friday (22nd), author John Little will be giving a talk and slideshow at the Settlement on Castle Hill in Maryport about his book, 'MacDonald's Choice'.

Based on real events, Mr Little’s book is set around a shipwreck in 1888 which concerned four local men, including the celebrated John Crone. During the evening, the author shall be examining the real story of what happened and relaying what he found in researching the tale.

The discussion follows an evening Little held in Workington about another of his published books, ‘The Light Over the Solway’. The novel focuses on a 1915 working class family in Northwest England who find themselves in a country at war. The book paints a picture of their lives, the impact of the war upon them, and details their experiences with a high degree of historical accuracy to the world they move in.

Admission costs £6 and doors will open at 6:30 for a 7pm start. Refreshments are available and if anyone would like to reserve any seats, they can do so by emailing the venue at cs@castlehilltrust.org.uk.
