Around this time of the year, we will see many events pop up that are celebrating autumn.

Harvest festivals are of the most popular kinds of events that we see, however, some often stand out from the rest into something truly unique.

For this reason, we decided that it would be a good idea for us to take a good look back in time, through our photo archives, to see what one of these events looked like.

One event that stood out, was the Autumn Festival, which was put on by Hillside residents in Maryport on October 29, 2016.

The event was put on by the Hillside residents, and took place all day from 10am until 4om, on Ellenfoot Drive.

Stomping Ground, the not-for-profit organisation encouraging play and creativity, organised lantern-making to take to the Ewanrigg lantern parade on Sunday, later that week.

Stomping Ground works with communities, charities and companies to make space for people to come together, create and play.

Gem, Di and Lily are the directors of Stomping Ground and have collective experience of creative arts workshops and commissions, outdoor play and Forest School, event organising and community consultation.

At the event, Gem, Di and Lily also helped people make bird feeders, plant spring bulbs, make medals and build dens.

There were also talks from a local PCSO and firefighter.

Cumbrian chef John Crouch attended and recipes he has previously demonstrated to the Hillside and Pecklewell Residents’ Association were made available to sample.

These delicious, autumnal recipes included leak and potato, tomato and pasta, lentil and pumpkin and ginger soups and lemon and ginger flapjacks.

The event has been organised by the residents’ association and all were welcome.

For many, the peak autumn event, aside from the Harvest Festival events in schools and churches, is Hallowe'en.

There are several Halowe'en events, such as haunted mazes and haunted castles, going on throughout Cumbria and the Lake District.
