A West Cumbrian Town will be seeing some disruption to one of its most popular areas as construction work gets underway.

The harbour in Whitehaven will still be accessible as work starts on the new coastal activities centre but the Wellington Inn Car Park will be inaccessible for some time.

This news comes after an announcement by the Whitehaven Harbour Commissioners this week.

A spokesperson said: "Access to Whitehaven harbour will be maintained during the construction of our new coastal activities centre.

It is very important to us that your enjoyment of the harbour can continue while work is underway on The Edge.

"Access will be via the track to the rear of the coastal battery and lime kiln.

"Emergency vehicles and contractors will also be able to use this path to access the harbour and lighthouses.

"Wellington Inn Car Park will be closed for the duration of the project as access will not be possible during the works."

Work in The Edge is set to begin next month and should be completed by December 2022.

The Harbour Commissioners have urged people to get in touch if they would like any further information.
