People who are being affected by prostate cancer are being invited to come along to a monthly support group.

The North Cumbria Prostate Cancer Support Group are offering support to anyone who is being affected by prostate cancer at a monthly meeting at Morton Manor Community Centre in Carlisle.

The next meeting is being held on Tuesday November 2 between 7pm and 9pm.

It has been a difficult period for support groups like the North Cumbria Prostate Cancer Support Group, who were unable to have face to face contact during the Covid-19 lockdown.

The group is now hoping to attract more people back to it's face to face sessions.

Jim Allen, 76, who co-founded the the group after being diagnosed with prostate cancer 14 years ago said it had been a challenging pandemic for the group, but that they are hoping to bounce back.

On why he started the group, Mr Allen said he wanted to "speak to someone in the same position" that he was in.

Talking about what people can expect from the meetings, Mr Allen added: “It’s a very informal meeting.

"It’s not a membership group. People come and go, it’s like a drop-in. There’s no commitment."
