CHRISTMAS is coming to back to Workington this year - after Covid put a stop to last years festivities in the town.

Workington’s Christmas Festival and Lights Switch on will take place on Saturday 20th November 2021 from 11am-5pm.

The lights will be switched on at 5pm by The Mayor of Workington, Cllr Herbert Briggs.

The festival will be jam packed with entertainment throughout the day which will include live music and performances, walkabout entertainers, face painting, Christmas crafts and market, fun fair, Santa’s Grotto, magic, puppets, princesses and storytelling.

The main stage will be located outside The Entertainer and Bensons for Beds this year, with the local Christmas market will stretching down the pedestrian areas of the town leading up to the hub.

The market will feature a fabulous mix of independent local businesses selling tempting treats and beautiful hand-made gifts.

A spokesman for Workington Town Council commented, ‘we are delighted to hold our Christmas festival in the town again, after we turned it into a virtual Christmas festival during lockdown in 2020.

" It will be amazing to see the town come together again and celebrate Christmas after what has been a very difficult 18 months for many’.

The Mayor will switch the towns lights on and is excited to have the oppurtunity this year.

Speaking preivously about Christmas festivities coming back to the town this year, Mayor Herbert Briggs said: “It’s absolutely brilliant. I think under the circumstances that last years switch-on was absolutely fantastic CF events done an absolutely fantastic job putting a two day concert on for the switch on of the lights and all the artists that did attend.

“As I keep saying, it’s just nice to get back to normality and this Winter Wonderland will get us back to some form of normality because people will be able to walk through the park and look at it and see it in it’s glory and it will be brilliant.

“We all missed out and we have got to make up for lost time, and to get back to doing what we do around Christmas time....even when you’re in your 50s like me, you’re still a big kid at heart.”

The main stage line up will be announced over the next few weeks, so keep an eye on the Town Council’s Facebook page.
