PLANS have been submitted to build 'a small scale housing development' on land in Abbeytown which the applicant hopes will 'promote growth and sustainability.'

Allerdale Borough Council has recieved the application for planning permission from Coniston Consultants Limited.

Although the plans have been submitted in outline only, early plans are for the development at land to the rear of Wheatsheaf Inn to include two dwellings.

The applicant said: "The proposed scheme would see the provision of a small infill housing development in a central location within the village, which will have no impact on the locality or indeed the built environment.

"The site is to be accessed from the existing highway access to the adopted road fronting the site."

Coniston Consultants said that the development has "no overlooking problems, which in turn will strengthen the sustainability and operation of local business."

The site is described as a grassed area to the rear of the inn which is 'readily available for development.'

An ecology statement submitted by the applicant suggests that as the site is based centrally in the village, there will be no impact on natural habitats.

Further details about the development will be revealed in a reserved matters application which will follow if the council gives approval for development in principle.

Coniston Consultants said: "The scale, massing and design of the proposed building, is to be conditioned and would require a Reserved Matters Application to be submitted."

The public can view and comment on all applications submitted to Allerdale Borough Council for approval.

Comments of support or objection will be taken into account by councillors on the planning panel when they give their verdict.
