THIS weekend, we spent time with our loved ones to celebrate Easter.

Of course, this time of year wouldn’t be complete without the eggs. The Easter egg symbolises the empty tomb of Jesus Christ found by a group of women on the third day of his crucifixion, from which he was resurrected.

The News & Star, Times & Star and Whitehaven News asked their readers on Facebook what their favourite chocolate bars and snacks were.

In no particular order, the 10 favourite chocolate snacks are:

  • Lindt – From their gold bunnies to their range of delicious shells with melting fillings, the Swiss chocolatiers produce a range of snacks that never disappoint.
  • Black Magic – Created by Nestle, the box contains 18 dark chocolates in a variety of caramels, nuts and fruit creams.
  • Crème Eggs – Who doesn’t love a Crème Egg? The first of the kind we know and love was produced by Cadbury’s in 1971 and have been deep fried, used as shot glasses and included in a McDonald’s McFlurry.

  • Fry’s Turkish Delight – The Marmite of chocolate bars? The sweet treat was first marketed in 1914 by Bristol’s J.S. Fry & Sons and are still being made today by Cadbury’s.

  • Ferrero Rocher – Always depicted as a classy treat, the chocolate ball is the largest consumer of hazelnuts in the world.
  • Caramac – A retro classic, Mackintosh’s used to sell eggy versions of the blonde chocolate treat. Now, Cadbury’s have brought it back in bar form.
  • Wispa – Launched in 1983 as a competitor to Rowntree’s Aero bar, Cadbury’s actually discontinued the bar in 2003. It’s now back in supermarkets thankfully, with the delicious Gold version also available.
  • Twirl – Consisting of two Flake-style bars covered in milk chocolate, Cadbury’s launched an orange version in 2019.

  • Mars – Originally produced in 1932, the factory in Slough can make nearly three million bars a day filled with caramel and nougat.
  • M&Ms – The Ms stand for Mars and Murrie, the surnames of the founders of Mars and Hershey who came together to make the sweet. The two American companies are now arch-rivals in the market.
