Candidates standing in the upcoming Cumberland Council election have shared their top priorities for the ward they hope to represent.
Voters will take to the polls on May 5 to elect Unitary councillors for the new authority.
Candidates standing for the Maryport North ward in Allerdale have highlighted the main issues they hope to tackle in the area.

1. To have the new Swimming pool open by 2024. It was devastating that Maryport lost its swimming pool in 2018 and myself along with 11 other interested local people set ourselves up as Trustees to begin the task of providing a replacement up to date Pool
It is in the Future High Streets successful plan and will be attached to the Wave centre. It will provide a leisure water facility our town needs as a place to enable local people to learn to swim and to enjoy another leisure pursuit
2 Maryport - needs facilities for banking, dining, shopping facilities and good transport links- The Heritage action Zone funding will allow shop fronts to be revitalised. but it requires the drive and capability to present to the new Cumberland Unitary authority the case for Maryport This I pledge I will do if elected
3.I support the Safer Street bid put together by the Cumbria Constabulary for our town I instigated a multiagency meeting concerning the Anti-social behaviours we had to endure in the past months and hopefully the bid being successful. I will ensure that it gives back a quality of life our residents so deserve.

I am honoured to have been selected to be your Conservative candidate for Maryport North in the May elections for the new Cumberland Council.
Maryport is the town I've called home for the past 16 years, and I wouldn't wish to live or raise my family anywhere else. To make this beautiful town better for all, I would like to concentrate on the following:
• Work to keep council tax bills low
• Expanding on Mark Jenkinson MP’s ‘Grot Spot’ campaign to keep our town clean, tidy and attractive to visitors
• Work to bring investment into our precious grassroots sports, this is a subject particularly close to my heart as a volunteer in local youth Rugby league.
These elections decide leadership in our area for the next five years - to help me to become your representative - I ask for your support on Thursday 5th May.

I was born and raised in Maryport and I am fiercely proud to call this unique little town my home.
In recent decades our Town has suffered with neglect and unemployment with many businesses struggling to survive.
However, I feel with the huge regeneration projects and the inception of the new Cumberland authority about to proceed I feel Maryport has a very bright future.
- We need to embrace tourism and the heritage of our Town to move us forward.
- I will push to ensure the new Cumberland Authority is streamlined and transparent.
- I will promote improved fronline services that will benefit our Town and give the towns people a place to be proud of once again.
I only give one promise to the electorate and that I will give my very very best if elected.
