A residents’ discount scheme set up by Cumbria Tourism to support local communities is marking its tenth anniversary next month with a host of daily giveaways for local people throughout May.

The MyCumbria card scheme was established back in May 2012 by the county’s official Destination Management Organisation, purely for people living or working in Cumbria.

It helps recognise the important role that locals play in supporting the county’s tourism economy and gives them the opportunity to explore the array of gems on their doorstep.

MyCumbria now has more than 200 unique residents’ offers for a variety of pubs, cafes, restaurants, attractions and retailers throughout the county.

Starting from this Friday 29 April, there will be 31 special prizes on offer, with all MyCumbria Card holders entered into a daily draw automatically.

The prizes range from £100 to spend at local producers like Hawkshead Relish and Pure Lakes Skincare, to family attraction tickets for the likes of Whitehaven’s Beacon Museum and Lowther Castle, annual passes for Holker Hall and Safari Zoo Cumbria and outdoor experiences for four people.

There is also plenty for foodie fans with an array of afternoon teas, Sunday lunches, £100 to spend at selected hospitality venues and even a surprise from Grasmere Gingerbread.

Ben Melling oversees the MyCumbria scheme at Cumbria Tourism. He says “It’s fantastic to be celebrating ten years of MyCumbria.

“Times are tough for many households, but this scheme can offer some great discounts all year round.

"It’s especially helpful for families who need to tighten their belts but still want to enjoy quality experiences and time together.

“As we all try to bounce back from the effects of the pandemic, we know people want to continue supporting their local communities.

"This is a great way to help Cumbria residents get out and about in our county while also doing their bit for the recovery of the local economy.”

He adds, “Not only is MyCumbria great for people who live and work here, but it’s also really useful to businesses who are looking to tap into the local market.

“Offering residents reduced rates is a great way attract a new customer base.

"We are always on the lookout for more exclusive offers to include on the MyCumbria scheme and it’s completely free for businesses get involved.”

MyCumbria card holders need to have a valid CA or LA Cumbria postcode at either a home or work address.

For the annual price of £20, they then get access to a range of exclusive discounts for retailers, attractions, hospitality venues throughout the county.
