HALIFAX 40 BARROW 18

Barrow crashed to their fourth defeat against Yorkshire opposition, going down at the Shay to a very fast and clinical Halifax side on Sunday.

Barrow, although refusing to throw in the towel in scoring four tries when the odds were against them, were let down by several errors that led to the home side going on the rampage.

The Raiders were dealt a massive blow five minutes from half time when play maker Jarrod Sammut was stretchered off and dispatched to hospital as a precaution following what looked like an injury to the neck area.

Sammut was injured in attempting to cross the home line, being inches short as he was tackled. The game was held up for 15 minutes while the medics attended to the 36-year-old, who gave the thumbs up to the applauding home and travelling supporters.

The opening 10 minutes were even, then the Raiders were hit with a double whammy as the home side shot into a 12-0 lead.

Frenchman Louis Jouffret crossed for Keyes to convert, soon followed by Tangata after Barrow were caught offside near the home line. Keyes tagged on the goal.

Barrow almost hit back when Sammut tried to get Ritson in at the corner, but his pass was judged forward.

On 25 minutes points on the board for Barrow, full back Woodhall knocked on and from the scrum Brookes and debutant Eseh went close prior to Creswell joining the attack to send Ritson in for his 12th of the season, 12-4.

But dismay as from the re-start, Brookes lost the ball and the home side swept towards the line for Arundel to score 16-4. Then came the injury to Sammut but it was Barrow who were to add to their tally.

Croft went close before the ball moved sharply to Stack who prised open a gap to score, Jake Carter converting 16-8.

However further disappointment came Barrow's way when Wheeler, trying to release Shane Toal, saw the ball go to ground from where Walmsley raced over for 20-8 at the break.

Barrow kept the wolves at bay for 11 minutes into the second half but a long pass from Josh Wood was intercepted and racing in for the home side was Walmsley, 24-8.

And before Barrow could catch their breath, Kyle Wood was touching down by the posts for Keyes to convert 30-8.

Another lapse in concentration allowed McComb to cross the white-wash, 34-8.

In attack, Barrow were doing well and added tries through Wood and Creswell with one goal from Carter 34-18. However McComb had the final say with a late try converted by Keyes.

Barrow will now re-group for next Monday's home clash with York before Premier Sports cameras.

Barrow: Creswell, Ritson, Croft, Wheeler, S Toal, Sammut, J Carter, Forster, Wood, Gillam, Stack, Langtree, Iaria. Subs: Brookes, Mossop, Emslie, Eseh.
