A CONCERT in memory of a much-loved Seaton woman was held this weekend- bringing some 'Summer Lovin' to the village.

Summer Lovin' 22 was held in the village last Sunday in memory of Sandra Benson who died in 2020.

750 people turned out to the day that was themed around Sandra's favourite musical Grease, with proceeds from the day being donated to Cancer Research UK.

Singers from Workington and beyond took to the stage throughout the day - alongside vendors, a raffle and entertainment.

Sandra's husband Geoff Benson said: "I would just like to say how honoured we were as a family to have had such a fantastic occasion named in the memory of Sandra.

"She would have loved the day, it was right up her street.

"I would personally like to thank everyone who attended for making it so memorable.

"A special thanks should go to Mike & Jean Thompson, Andrew Burns, Dave Park, Dan Horsley and everyone who worked tirelessly to deliver a marvellous day which I am sure all that attended thoroughly enjoyed.

"It was so professionally implemented that is was a credit to all involved.  I only hope that the event has raised a more than generous amount of cash for a fantastic charity."

The event was organised by Seaton Village Hall, a spokesman for the hall said: "We as Seaton Village Hall trustees would like to thank all the people that bought tickets to make this event possible, we know Sandra would have been so proud of you all and the way the event was run.

"We couldn’t have done the event without all the volunteers who helped before during and after the event. Everyone showed so much respect on the day and we’re a fantastic crowd who really got involved and had a great party in memory of Sandra. We would also like to thank all the suppliers, artists and vendors who also made the event a success.

"We are still counting the money we raised for Cancer Research UK and we will realise the final total on our Seaton Village Hall Facebook page as soon as we know."
