Regeneration experts BEC have launched the next phase of its exciting BECADEMY apprenticeship scheme to mould the workforce of the future – with applications now open.

Operating from the beautiful Westlakes Science Park near Whitehaven, BEC is looking to appoint four amazing, community minded apprentices to join its team this September and help deliver its most ambitious regeneration plans to date.

BEC drives valuable regeneration that benefits local communities by reinvesting profits from its lettings estate portfolio into community driven, environmentally sensitive developments.

A well-attended open day at the end of May attracted glowing feedback from those present at BEC’s headquarters at Ingwell Hall, Westlakes Science Park.

Now BEC is inviting would-be recruits to apply for the four apprenticeship roles covering Facilities Management, Sustainability, Project Management and Digital Marketing creating direct employment and sustainable jobs for young people in West Cumbria.

BEC have put in place clear objectives for the BECADEMY to help apprentices understand their roles, and BEC will provide appropriate mentoring, support, and help guide their development.

The successful open day saw 20 young people attend and was such a hit that 15 of those present registered an interest in the apprenticeship opportunities on offer while BEC received an additional four separate expressions of interest.

The hands-on open day saw those attending engage in a variety of activities and challenges.

These included working in teams to try and build the tallest free-standing structure in just 18 minutes using no more than 20 sticks of spaghetti, one yard of tape, one yard of string, and one marshmallow!

They were also tasked with reimagining and deciding how they would reinvigorate an underused space and considering everything from brand and identity to income generation.

Paula Mewse who is responsible for setting up BECADEMY, said “After the brilliant feedback and enthusiasm show by those attending our open day, we are delighted to be formally opening applications for apprentices to join our BECADEMY as we embark on the most exciting chapter in our history.

“BECADEMY will develop young people in West Cumbria to gain the required skills to take on permanent roles within our organisation. BEC believe as an organisation, we can offer a real chance to shape better communities and present real life work experiences. The BECADEMY will offer the chance to become directly involved in work experiences and live projects resulting in students seeing their successes and rewards leave a legacy for future generations.”

Successful candidates will join BEC in September 2022.

The apprentices will be involved in the development and management of schemes like the recently refurbished Bus Station and BEC’s current scheme to create a Digital and Gaming Hub for West Cumbria.
