JAMES Moore may be the face of Glassonbury but he shares this 'Person of the Week' with a small and tireless group to make a Maryport music festival a success.

Take a group of men, add a couple of drinks and Glasson Rangers rugby club becomes the venue for Glassonbury, a festival that has been going for over a decade.

It started off with a two-pronged vision - to raise the profile of the club and to raise money for local charities.

James and his crew of dedicated workers have raised thousands of pounds to date.

"In the early days there were not so many festivals around. Because we were raising money for charity many of the bands played for free," he said.

"It is different now. Costs are rising and we don't expect [that]. The result is that most of the money raised will go to funding the festival but we also intend to made a donation to a local charity if there is money left."

The stalwarts who put the festival together each year include: Ross Easterbrook - "he is very important as he is in a band himself and all the hiring."

Others in the core group of helpers are Robert Burns, Jack Tweedie, Chris Fisher, Nicky Trellin, Ryan Scott, Tony Burns and Barry Schooly.

Organising the festival can take up a lot of time.

"From two months before we have meetings every two weeks. Then it goes to twice a week and, finally, every night."

The day of the festival is a long one for the organisers, and when the crowds go home they are left to clean up the mess.

"We usually do it on Sunday and that is where we could really do with some more helpers," he said.

Even though the country had come out of lockdown this time last year, James said the club had decided to err on the side of caution.

"We are looking forward to getting back to normal and are hoping that people will suport us as they have in the past."
