A COMMUNITY-BASED event will see teenage musicians thrash it out as they compete for a spot at the upcoming Solfest Music Festival.

The sold-out Teens That Rock 2022 event, which is being held at Carlisle College of the Arts on July 4 and led by tutor Anna Atkinson, will see eight artists take to the stage in front of a high-roster of judging talent, including a member of Hardwicke Circus.

On the judging table will be Chris Morris, team manager at Carlisle College of the Arts; Will Morgan, manager of the Old Fire Station; Jonny Foster from Hardwicke Circus; Chloe Clarke-Haywood stage manager at Solfest Music festival and Emma Dockeray from the local band Flynt.

"The whole idea for me for this project was to give young people the experience to play in a professional environment, on a safe platform, that gives them opportunities to progress as an artist," Anna said.

"The prize will hopefully inspire them to keep going and make music."

On the night, a third of the vote will come from the audience, a second vote will come from Facebook as they run polls with their livestream, and the third vote resides with the judges.

It's not just a spot on the Solfest stage the artists are competing for however, with the accolade also coming with a gig in Old Fire Station and the creation of a music video, to help artists get that running start.

"It's one of those things that if you added up how much a band would have to pay for that would be a fortune," Anna went on.

"We've got the rest of the teaching team here at college helping which is the beauty of it, we've got the art students doing all the marketing and promotions, the media department doing the filming and the music production doing all the live sound - it's a real collaborative project," she said.

Anna gave thanks to Carlisle College for all their support in helping to get the community-based event up and running.
