RESIDENTS have shared their disgust after a seagull was spotted with an arrow through its neck.

Bardsea Bird Sanctuary has been unable to catch the bird to remove the arrow. Volunteer Sydny Davies said: "I was parked on Oxford Street and I noticed a seagull perched on top of the lamppost and it was aggressively plucking at its neck.

"Next thing I noticed was an arrow protruding out from one side to the other. I could see that it was also struggling to swallow.

"Unfortunately, we can't catch seagulls like this as it's near enough impossible when they still have healthy functioning of their wings. We've had other reports of seagulls with arrows in their necks before and it's just disheartening."

Barrow residents have been taking to social media to share their disgust at what happened.

Kay Jeffries said: "What the hell is wrong with people. I know they are a pain but they have just as much right to live as we do. Poor bird. Just isn’t right."

Elaine Ferguson said: "We're living in their territory, they are running out of land due to us.

"Why do people feel it's ok to hurt any animal, I've seen loads of people aiming for birds on the road even the babies."

Sammy Louise Newman said: "Poor bird. Can’t believe someone could do such a thing! It’s a loving thing and probably got a family. How would you feel if someone put an arrow through your neck!"

Theresa Danahay said: "I was in town with my daughter a few weeks ago.

"An older teenager walking past kicked a poor pigeon like a football across Dalton Road. Luckily the pigeon was ok. We were very upset. My daughter couldn't believe somebody could do this."

Garry Glew said: "I don't particularly like seagulls but my god there are some bad people about."
