A drug-driver has been banned from getting behind the wheel after he was more than twice the cocaine limit.

Stephen Atkinson, 46, of Simpson Close, Moota, Cockermouth, pleaded guilty to a charge of driving a vehicle with a proportion of a specified controlled drug above the specified limit.

Atkinson had been driving a black Mercedes on Victoria Road in Workington on January 27 this year.

He had 20mcg of cocaine per litre of blood. The legal limit is 10mcg.

Magistrates sitting in Workington banned Atkinson from driving for 12 months.

He was fined £393 and must pay £85 costs and a £39 victim surcharge.
