IT is time to get the running shoes out again.

After a two-year absence due to Covid, Workington Town Council’s Festival of Running is making a welcome return on Sunday, August 14.

Organised in conjunction with Cumberland Athletic Club, the Festival of Running offers people of all athletic abilities to sign up for 1km, 5km or 10km runs

Registration will also take place on the day and opens at Workington Leisure Centre from 11am, with races starting at noon. Entries on the day will not be taken after 12.15pm.

Runners will enjoy a scenic route around the town.

Meanwhile, there’ll be lots to do for those cheering on family and friends with refreshment stalls and children’s entertainment and face painting available from 11.30am to 3.30pm.

The 1k fun run will start at noon, is free to enter and fancy dress is optional, but there will be a prize for the best fancy dress.

The 5k run begins at 12.30pm and the 10k at 1.30pm.

The 5k run costs £6 to enter (£4 for UKA-affiliated runners) with a limit of 150 runners. The 10k run costs £10 to enter (£8 for UKA-affiliated runners) also with a limit of 150 runners.

A compere will be present to ensure everyone knows where they should be and at what time and there wil be a warm up session.

The Cumberland Athletic Club will be on hand throughout the day to give guidance and advice.

The Mayor of Workington, Cllr Denise Rollo, said: "It is great news that our Festival of Running is returning after two years.

"We welcome runners of all abilities to sign up and their families to come along for what promises to be a fun day full of fresh air, entertainment and exercise.”
