A GROUP of die hard Workington Town supporters have been praised far and wide for their commitment to the club they love so much.

Last Sunday, August 14 around 30 committed Workington Town fans ventured to the capital to watch the blue and white army take on Championship side London Broncos.

Despite the match confirming the club's relegation back to League One the commmitted fans said that they would 'do it again in a heartbeat'.

The fans have been praised by many in the rugby league community for the commitment and support they have shown in what has been a difficult year for the club- particularly the .

Spokesman for the Derwent Park Supporters Club Scott Graham said: "Altogether with the Derwent Park Supporters Club who travelled down Friday night on the overnight bus and the Travellers Rest Supporters Club who travelled down Saturday about 30 town supporters made the long trip down to London.

"Even though it’s been a hell of a tough season for all the players and staff at the club have worked hard to make sure we still have a team to watch week in week out so we knew it was only right to follow and support the club.

"We’ve all had a brilliant time and would do it again in a heartbeat."

Workington Town Boss Chris Thorman has praised the fans who he said the club could not do without.

The coach said: "There would not be a club without those people, because they don't just travel everywhere, if theres ever raffle tickets to be bought, tops to be bid for or anything where anyone needs to put their hands in their pocket to make sure there is a turnover and a cash flow for the club, it's those people it's our fans and particularly those travelling fans."

"They are as good a set of supporterss that I have ever come across, they understand the sport, they know what the crack is with our club, the circumstances that we have worked in this year their support has just never wavered, they are a true credit to our club."

The Board of Directors also praised the 'special fans' for the support they have shown.

A spokesman for the Workington Town Board said: "It takes special fans to travel to London during train travel issues. To travel to support their team whatever the results, whatever the season their team is having. A massive and sincere thank you from the remaining players, staff and board at the club. It is so appreciated."
