A doctors' surgery was buzzing when a friendly bumble bee dropped by with a gift.

Postie Fiona Graham began dressing during lockdown to bring cheer, especially to the vulnerable and isolated.

She began as a bee, marking the fact that her round is Allonby but eventually started wearing different costumes each week.

Fiona eventually raised £3,000 for NHS charities ut also wanted to help her local health providers.

She contacted the Maryport Patient Participation Group, one of the few groups still operating after the pandemic, according to chairman Celia Underwood.

As a result, the surgery was presented with a £760 phlebotomy chair. The chair is used to give blood tests and has adjustable arms and positions and is specifically to aid patients having bloods taken.

As well as dressing up, Fiona became a listening ear and often a messenger for those who were stuck at home during the pandemic.

Assistant practice manager Liam Southwell thanked Fiona for her efforts which SisterJelkaFoster said would be welcomed by staff and patirents alike.
