Cockermouth auction company Mitchells is undergoing a significant reshuffle, with changes in leadership and staff promotions taking place.
Ian Powley, chairman of Mitchells for the past five years, has chosen to retire after serving on the company board for nine years.
Mr Powley said: "It’s been an honour chairing Mitchells and a pleasure leading the company’s 150th birthday celebrations last year.
"Now the time is right for me to hand over the running of this great company to my successor."
He will be succeeded at the end of August by Stephen Revell, who is already one of Mitchells' directors and holds a significant interest in fine art and furniture.
Mr Revell said: "I am very pleased to become chairman at this exciting time for Mitchells - we need to ensure we have sustainable businesses working for our customers and that we are 'fit for the future'."
In the chairmanship, Mr Revell will be working alongside the promoted land agent Ian Wood, farm and environment advisor Sandy Brown, and estate agent Jemma Brown.
Vice chair Andrew Nicholson, also a director and farmer, will be largely overseeing the livestock division and fostering relationships with the farming community.
Furthermore, Andrew Wright has been promoted to lead the livestock division, continuing his involvement in larger farm sales.
A new face joining the team is Bradley Thompson, coming from L and K North West Auctions in Kendal, who will be the new lead auctioneer.
Mr Thompson said: "I’m looking forward to this fantastic new challenge at Mitchells as lead auctioneer.
"I’m excited to work with new customers, as well as some familiar faces.
"Thank you to the directors at Mitchells for giving me this opportunity to help make the market thrive."
Mitchells is also establishing the 'Mitchells Forum', a discussion group for farmers and others to discuss developments and challenges affecting the 'future of farming' in the area.
Company director and farmer Rachael Millard will be heading up this new initiative.
