A 94-year-old woman left her room for the first time in a year to attend her great-granddaughter's christening.
Staff at Newlands Care Centre in Workington found out that Emma Taylor's newborn great-grand daughter Bella, who is named after her, was being christened.
They contacted Natalie, Bella’s mum, to get the ball rolling and make Ms Taylor's 'dream come true'.
The family were unaware that Ms Taylor would be able to attend the event, making it a 'wonderful surprise' for all.
Ms Taylor, who is beloved by staff and residents alike, was escorted to the event by general manager Kim Whelan.
She said: "I am so grateful to everyone, I have managed to attend this special occasion and this means the world to me – and I didn’t even ask."
The family, who 'never thought this would have been possible', were overjoyed to see her at the church.
Kim Whelan, general manager at the home, said: "We believe that every moment is worth cherishing.
"We want everyone we care for to know how important they are to us here at Newlands Care Centre.
"It is testament to the hard work and dedication of the team here in making our residents’ dreams come true.
"It was wonderful to see how happy Emma and her family was – and the staff loved being a part of this as well."
The care centre is run by Barchester Healthcare, one of the UK’s largest care providers.
Newlands Care Centre provides residential care, nursing care and dementia care for 52 residents from respite care to long-term stays.
Staff at the home were delighted to assist, as they knew how much it meant to Ms Taylor and her family.
