A WORKINGTON family had their own special place in a monumental day for one of the UK's most iconic wedding venues - as they joined 99 other families to celebrate 100 years of a town hall where rock and roll legends have tied the knot.
Myles Hudson, 34, an engineer in the railway sector from Workington met new wife Jen, 36, a nurse from Stockport, at university moving to London around 10 years ago.
The couple got engaged over two years ago but 'never really knew' how they wanted to get married.
After deciding they would like to have a small ceremony around six weeks ago, the pair started enquiring with registry offices around London for October 1.
It was 'just by chance' that Old Marylebone Town Hall got back to the couple informing them they had a spot that day as part of their 100th anniversary celebration - hosting 100 ceremonies for 100 couples at a £100 each.
Every couple was allowed to bring eight guests, with Myles' mum Julie Hudson and grandma Carol Graham travelling down from Workington for the special day, as well as Jen's mum and grandparents.
Myles said: "We expected it to be quite hectic when we got there, with so many weddings to get through.
"It was a monumental occasion. We thought it would just be on the BBC regional news, but we had no idea it was going to be live-streamed and everything on the BBC.
"I don't think we really appreciated how big it would be until the day, but to have our grandparents down and our mums... they absolutely loved it."
Known as the UK’s go-to-venue for celebrity weddings, Marylebone Town Hall has hosted the nuptials of some of Britain’s best-known stars, including legendary Beatles Ringo Starr and Sir Paul McCartney, as well as Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher.
Myles said: "It was such a simple ceremony and I guess even some big celebrities want to do it quick and hassle free... we kind of share that value in a way, we didn't want anything big and extravagant.
"I really like them celebrities like Paul McCartney and Liam Gallagher, they're some of my favourite musicians, so it's really nice to share those values in a way.
"Definitely coming out on the steps and with all the media attention on the day, you did kind of feel like a celebrity for 20 or 30 seconds."
Myles and Jen decided they didn't need to 'spend any money on fancy wedding cars' and took the tube to the town hall, with a pub lunch for their guests following and the couple booking out their local pub for friends to join and celebrate in the evening.
The couple plan to have a larger wedding celebration for friends and family next year, but think their special day in Marylebone will be 'pretty hard to top'.
