TECHY students have launched careers in robotics thanks to a partnership between Middlesbrough College and an international company.
Lewis Greenan and Alex Bavin impressed bosses at ULC Robotics, a leader in product development and specialist robotic services within the utilities sector maintaining London’s underground gas infrastructure.
Now they will start a three-and-a-half-year Engineering Technician Mechatronics Standard Apprenticeship programme delivered by Northern Skills Group, the apprenticeship and training arm of Middlesbrough College.
Lewis and Alex were chosen from a group of nine students studying engineering who took part in the apprenticeship selection programme – which included work placements with ULC and mentoring from ULC staff.
Graeme Cleeton, vice president of ULC’s UK operations, who is also from Middlesbrough, said: “We’re thrilled to give Lewis and Alexander the opportunity to build a career with ULC.
“They impressed us with their commitment and hard work and now they will continue to build their skills and knowledge while working on real client jobs."
