Workington Reds 0 Farsley Celtic 1

Reds paid the price for missed chances as they slipped to a second successive home defeat.

Sam Joel and Jason Walker both missed golden opportunities in the first half to give Reds the lead.

A goal on 65 minutes from James Spencer won the game for Farsley and Reds couldn’t find an equaliser.

Workington had the first chance on seven minutes when Scott Allison sent Joel through.

One-on-one with Kyle Trennery, the keeper blocked his low shot and Jason Walker following up was crowded out.

It had been a lively start from both sides, prepared to move the ball quickly, and the high tempo meant the game flowed from end to end.

On 25 minutes, Allison threaded a ball through for Walker who lifted it deftly over Trennery but it struck the foot of the post and was hammered behind by a covering defender.

At the other end, Farsley almost got in after Kyle May slipped but Matty Douglas got across to block a goal-bound shot from James Spencer.

Farsley went close in the final minute of the half when a cross was knocked down to Nathan Cartman on the edge of the area and he shot just over.

Conor Tinnion had two early efforts from distance which did not trouble the keeper and Allison had a fierce shot rebound off a Farsley defender.

It was a blow when Farsley broke down the left and on 65 minutes Spencer did well controlling a cross from Will Hayhurst and firing past Aaran Taylor.

Tinnion worked the Farsley keeper with a curling free kick which he held under his bar and at the other end Taylor made a vital block to deny Spencer.

Farsley could have made the game safe on 81 minutes but Chris Atkinson fired over from eight yards.

There were five minutes of added time and even an extra minute added on for an injury to keeper Trennery but Reds couldn’t fashion another chance.
