Workington Town have tied down another key member of their successful squad as they build to push for promotion next season.

Perry Singleton, who joined Workington for the 2017 season from Barrow Island, has signed a new two-year contract which will extend his stay at the club until the end of 2020.

He is the latest player to commit his future to Town, with Tom Curwen, Scott Rooke, Stevie Scholey, Jamie Doran and Sean Penkywicz having already been announced for next year's squad.

The aim will be to challenge at the top of the table again and Singleton, who scored eight tries last season, said it was an easy decision to put pen to paper and be a part of that.

He has already shown Town fans what he is capable of but hopes to showcase even more of his ability and steer clear of injuries in 2019.

"The club have looked after me since joining and I want to be part of their plans over the next few seasons," he said.

"On a personal playing level for next year I'm really looking forward to preseason and hoping to stay injury free to really show what I can offer."

Director Les Smallwood added: "Perry has been a consistently strong performer over the last couple of seasons since joining from his community club.

"Strong in defence and attack, he is a mainstay of the team and very versatile.

"His fantastic attitude was evident when, although injured and out for the season, he put his hand up to play in the Swinton game.

"He’s another great lad to have around the club and helps us continue to build on our plans for a core Cumbrian-based team.

"We look forward to seeing Pez in the blue and white for the foreseeable future."
