Whitehaven have added former Hensingham forward Jordan Thomson to their squad for next season.

Thompson was signed to help the injury-plagued side towards the end of the current season and impressed enough to earn a three-year deal.

Now new coach Gary Charlton is hoping that Thomson’s successful stint in League One, and subsequent signing, will encourage other amateurs to have a go.

“Jordan isn’t the biggest forward but he has a big heart and I’m sure he’s going to be an excellent signing for the club,” said Charlton.

The Hensingham forward was one of several players signed up just before the transfer deadline and he made an instant impression with a tough debut appearance at Bradford Bulls.

He had come on from the bench at Odsal but went on to get six starts before the end of the season, picking up Man of the Match awards in two of the home fixtures.

Thomson said: "I'm delighted about signing for Whitehaven and it's something I've wanted for a while so I'm looking forward to getting started.

“I’d just like to say a massive thank you to Chris McKinney and Howard Hill the coaches at Hensingham, also and to Scott McAvoy for making this happen."
