Workington Town skipper Ollie Wilkes believes his side will have no shortage of motivation when he leads them to Doncaster to do battle in the League One play-offs semi-finals on Sunday (3pm kick-off).

Last weekend's dress rehearsal defeat at the Keepmoat Stadium will be fresh in the minds of the players, while for Wilkes there is the memory of Barrow's play-offs final win against Whitehaven last season, which he was a huge part of and wants to experience again with Town.

Former Whitehaven players Elliott Miller, James Newton and Karl Olstrom, now at Workington, will remember the heartbreak of falling at the last hurdle.

Wilkes believes whatever motivates each of his team-mates – from money and glory to family connections or the opportunity to play at a higher level – they will all be fired up to book their place in the final.

"Everyone's champing at the bit to go to Donny," Wilkes said.

"The team will pick itself on performance, attitude and who shows the desire to play in these games.

"I'm no stranger to these games and different things motivate different people but whatever it is, we'll turn up and give everything.

"I keep saying fingers crossed we get the win, but it won't come down to luck.

"It will be heart, commitment and who works hardest, who wants it more.

"You don't play hard all year to finish on a dead rubber.

"You want to be successful at the end of the season and there's no doubt we're capable of going there on Sunday and getting a win to get to the final."

Wilkes admitted it was difficult to read too much into last weekend's game, which saw head coach Leon Pryce rest a number of key players.

But if anything comes out of the clash, Wilkes hopes it is complacency from the Doncaster players after they emerged with a 44-32 win.

"If they think 'We put 40 points on them last weekend, this will be easy,' great, we want them to think like that," he said.

"Our defence is going to be sky-high this weekend, we're going to play the game really physically and combat whatever they throw at us down the edges.

"We've been working on that this week in training and we want to come away with the win."

Victory on Sunday would earn Town a shot in the play-offs final against Bradford or Oldham, who also play their semi-final on Sunday at Odsal.
