Doncaster playmaker Matty Beharrell believes his side’s win on Sunday gives them a boost ahead of this weekend’s crunch Betfred League One play-off semi-final with Workington Town.

Doncaster edged out Town 44-32 in the last game of the regular league season and Beharrell says confidence is high in the home camp as the sides prepare to do battle for the second week running.

He said on the club’s website: "The confidence in the group is high, we wanted to put down a marker against them and managed to do that.

"After a good first-half performance, we probably took our foot off the gas a little bit in the second half, and Rich told us afterwards that we can’t afford to do that in the play-off game.

"I think it can be tough facing a team two weeks in a row, but the momentum we’ve built up means that we’re capable of beating anyone."

The half-back picked up a try and six goals last weekend and is one of they key men for Richard Horne’s side.

And he added: "I’m really enjoying my rugby at the minute and that’s one of the main reasons why I wanted to come here in the first place.

"The facilities are first class and I was very optimistic that we had a squad capable of mounting a real push for promotion.

"Everyone knows how well we play at home, we like to pass the ball around and play a good brand of rugby so it stands us in good stead."

Horne is confident about this Sunday’s semi-final and says his side just need to keep building on the momentum that has seen them rack up 10 successive league and cup wins – a club record.

He added: "We’ve told the players that we needed to keep the momentum, we just had to focus on this game and get the job done.

"There was a determination to get the result, we were down to 12 and they gained some momentum but we managed to keep them at arms length.

"I wanted us to play with some shape and I’ve got some smart players who can play with the ball when they get that freedom."
