Workington Town hold a three try lead over the visiting London Skolars at half time.

Town have had the majority of the possession but have lacked a killer quality at times to finish off and they have had to defend well on their own try line.

The home side ran in three tries in the first half with a fourth disallowed but with just one conversion gong over, Town are just 14-0 ahead with a tough second half to come.

Town looked to assert some early pressure as they drove forward following a penalty and the final ball was kicked towards the post by Jamie Doran.

It took a bounce off the post and Town were able to wrap up the Skolars man over the line to force a drop-out.

But Town could not make the extra set count, although Sean Penkywicz went close, being held up over the line. However, Carl Forber was wrapped up on the last and the ball was turned over.

And London showed they mean business moments later as Michael Bishay kicked early in the tackle count and his quick thinking earned them ground with a 40/20.

Daymeric Pelo was taking some stopping early in the game but then Scott Rooke proved Town's saviour as he out-leaped the Skolars attackers and raced 30-metres out of the danger zone.

There were 12 minutes on the clock when Town's pressure paid off and good hands out to the left hand side saw Tyllar Mellor dive in at the corner flag.

The touchline conversion from Carl Forber was just short but Town now had their tails up.

Four minutes later as Town pressed the line again, Penkywicz popped up a nice pass for Tyler Dickinson to crash over from short range near the posts, leaving an easy two-pointer for Forber.

A loose pass from the visitors gave Workington chance to extend their lead. Mellor was quickest to react to the loose ball and he raced nearly the full length of the field to touch down, but again the conversion was missed.

Fuifui MoiMoi entered the field of play and after an early bruising encounter he thought he had scored between the posts but the play was pulled back for a forward pass.

Skolars were down to 12-men when Matt Fleming was sent to cool his heels in the sin bin for a professional foul but the visitors probably had one of their best spells of the game.

Town had to weather four consecutive sets on their own line showing some superb defence to keep the visitors out.

The London side were again reduced to 12-men with two minutes of the half remaining when Miles Greenhalgh was shown a yellow card.

But the home side could not make the penalty pay and the half ended with Town in the ascendancy 14-0.
